Schedule.....Subject to Change without Notice!!

This is our basic schedule.

I try to stick to it as much as possible, but......

stuff happens.

 

I will post more about each subject throughout the next few months.

Through some trial and error, we have settled on a curriculum that works for Sam.  It is varied enough for him that he doesn't get bored and has enough information for me that I don't get stressed trying to figure things out.

• For our family devotional we read from "Stand A Little Taller" by Gordon B. Hinckley 

• At the moment we are studying the Book of Mormon.  To keep Samuel involved we are using this guide, but adjust it to suit our needs. Wonderful ideas on this blog!  Prepared LDS Family

Well, that is a list of our main core stuff!

So far we have been very happy with all of it.  

We also throw in trips to the supermarket, mall and aquarium.

Lots of field trips for us to help Sam's social skills.

Even lunch at McDonald's play area counts!!

Why Home School??

Why home school?
I originally was going to do "10 Reasons Why I Home School", but, ultimately, the reason I home school boiled down to just one reason.......the most important reason.
I read blog post shared by one of my friends this morning and I thought what is happening to this world, this society, families.

Our choice for me to home school was easy to make.  Samuel had lost his joy for life.  It no longer showed on his face.  He wasn't happy.  He repeatedly asked me for, "A new Sam."
I home school because it is what is right for Sam.
It is what he needs me to do right now.
Will we do this forever?
I don't know.
But, for now, yes.
Sam is happy and that means I am happy.

Once upon a time..........

Tuesday was our last full day in Rapid City, South Dakota.

One of our favorite places to visit in Rapid City is Storybook Island.

When we lived in Rapid City, we spent many days at Storybook Island. 

I would take the kids (Joshua and Jessica) to watch magic shows and children's plays at the little theatre there.

Jessica even had a birthday party there our last summer.

 

It had changed quite a bit since our last visit 5 years ago.

But, some things never change.

 There was a "real" train there for the kids to play on, but, oddly, Samuel would have nothing to do with it!!

 Jim seems to know which way to sail that ship......Samuel isn't all that sure about Dad's directions.

 After Storybook Island, we drove to Chapel in the Hills. 

After walking around and taking in the beautiful sights, we headed back to the house.  We went out to Longhorn Steakhouse to eat dinner with Jim's parents.  We stopped at the local Frozen Custard shop to try some of their product........conclusion? 

Not as good as Purdy's Frozen Custard!!! 

 

Spent the evening visiting with Mom and Dad, laundry and packing.
